BUFFET CRAMPON R13 Prestige Bb Clarinet in its original case. Suitable for advancing players of all ages. This clarinet will not just get you through your Grade 8, it will get you through music college and probably an entire professional career. Formerly owned by a professional player, sadly no longer able to play. So you have a clarinet carefully selected from the outset and which will serve you well.

Don't let the age put you off. These clarinets sound infinitely more beautiful than any new R13, RC or anything else for that matter currently rolling off the production line in my opinion. Indeed, some of the best clarinets ever to leave the Buffet factory were made around this time.

Back in the day, the only people who could justify the cost of such instruments were professional players, with most serious students opting for the basic R13 model, so these pre mass production Prestige clarinets had to be good. Mature naturally aged grenadilla wood, naturally seasoned for between 60-80 years and a much better silver plating than that used today. Indeed, even the top shelf Buffet clarinets, The R13, RC, all the prestige range and even the higher models are manufactured with immature wood of about 15-20 years which is artificially hardened in an oven. This makes the wood unstable, prone to cracks, and in many ways, produces a characterless tone, equivalent, some have said, to no more than a glorified B12. The wood on this clarinet has stood the test of time.

No cracks, splits, or repairs. The tenons are crisp and round with no nicks or damage. The silver plating is excellent, with only minimal signs of use and wear on a few pillars, which in any case, has polished up incredibly well.

I have inspected the pads and they are good for another few years, and saw no need to change any of them. All pads seat nicely and all vent heights are perfect. All levers, keys and mechanisms are smooth and responsive, and the clarinet has a comfortable feel about it. This is a R13 Prestige clarinet manufactured without the left auxiliary Eb lever.

Great, if you're like me and learnt to play without it. Indeed, quite a few players take of the lever as it can get in the way, Artie Shaw being one example.

Any test play welcome in South East London. If possible, I can always try to bring the clarinet to you if possible. Indeed, I will bring 2 or 3 so you can really make a choice. If you're looking for a professional level clarinet that will serve you well and don't mind that it isn't brand new, then this is for you.

If you want a shiny new one at double the price, then you'll be able to find one as easily as ordering a pizza. This clarinet has been lovingly cared for and it shows. Not supplied with a mouthpiece, but if you're really stuck, I'll include a pro level Vandoren that I feel works well with this clarinet.
